When you create a poll you choose one of two types. The type you select affects what information is recorded when a member votes and what you can see in the results.
Quick Poll
A Quick poll records only the vote totals — how many members chose each answer. It does not track which member voted or when. Use a Quick poll when the outcome matters but individual identity does not, such as informal preference surveys or fun community questions.
Advanced Poll
An Advanced poll records every vote individually: the date and time of the vote, the member's name, their street address, and which answer they chose. This detail is visible in the Results screen in a "Votes by member" table. Use an Advanced poll when you need a verifiable record of who voted — for example, a formal board matter or a required membership vote.
Note: Because Advanced polls link votes to specific members, members should be aware that their vote is not anonymous.
Choosing the Right Type
Consider these guidelines when selecting a poll type:
- Informal preference or fun survey — Quick poll
- Community opinion gathering — Quick poll
- Formal vote or board matter — Advanced poll
- Situation where you need a voter audit trail — Advanced poll
Note: The poll type cannot be changed after votes have been cast without resetting the answers. If you need to switch types, duplicate the poll (which resets all vote counts to zero) and set the new type on the copy.
