Creating a Poll

Updated 5/4/2026

This article walks you through building a new poll from scratch, including setting up its answers.

How to Create a Poll

  1. Navigate to Administer Site > Polls.
  2. Click New Poll at the top right of the poll list.
  3. Fill in all required fields (described below).
  4. Add at least one answer in the answers table.
  5. Click Save.

Poll Fields

Name (required)

The internal name for the poll. This is shown in the poll list and is used by administrators only — members do not see it. Choose a name that makes it easy to find the poll later.

Page (required)

Select which page of your site the poll appears on. Choose a page from the dropdown to attach the poll to that specific page, or select All Pages to display it on all your custom webpages.

Note: External link pages or application do not appear in the dropdown and cannot host a poll.

Type (required)

Choose Quick poll or Advanced poll. See "Quick Polls vs. Advanced Polls" for guidance on which to use.

Access Type (required)

Select which member group can see and vote on this poll. The dropdown lists the same member groups used throughout the site (for example, All Members, Residents, Board Members). Members outside the selected group will not see the poll.

Visible (required)

Set to On to display the poll on the site immediately after saving. Set to Off to save the poll without showing it to members — useful for setting up a poll before you are ready to launch it.

Question (required)

The question text displayed to members. Keep it clear and specific so members know exactly what they are voting on.

Adding Answers

Below the question field is the answers table. Every poll must have at least one answer.

  1. Click Add an Answer at the bottom of the table.
  2. Type the answer text in the Answer field that appears.
  3. Repeat for each additional answer by clicking Add Another Answer.

The Votes column next to each answer shows the current vote count. It is read-only — you cannot enter a number there manually.

Tip: Add answers in the order you want them to appear to members. You can reorder them later by editing the poll.

After Saving

The poll is saved and you are returned to the poll list. If you set Visible to On, the poll is immediately live on the site. Members with the correct access type will see it on the assigned page and can begin voting.
