This article covers all changes you can make to an existing poll — updating its settings or answers, creating a copy, or removing it permanently. All of these actions start from the same place: navigate to Administer Site > Polls and click the name of the poll you want to work with.
Editing a Poll
You can update any poll setting or answer at any time, including after voting has begun.
How to Edit a Poll
- Navigate to Administer Site > Polls.
- Click the name of the poll you want to edit.
- Make your changes in the form.
- Click Save.
What You Can Change
You can edit any field — name, page, type, access type, visibility, question, and answers — at any time. Changing these fields does not delete existing vote data.
Managing Answers
Editing an answer
Click inside the Answer field for any existing answer and type your changes. Click Save when done.
Warning: Changing the text of an answer that has already received votes does not reset or reassign those votes. The vote count stays with the answer entry. If you need to correct a typo, editing is safe. If you are substantially changing what the answer means, consider whether existing votes still reflect the intent of members who chose it.
Resetting vote counts
Each existing answer has a Reset link next to its vote count. Clicking Reset sets that answer's count to zero. Click Save to make the reset permanent.
Warning: Resetting a vote count is not reversible. Once you save, the votes are gone. Advanced polls will still show the individual vote records in the Results screen even after a reset, but the count displayed in the poll and results summary will reflect zero.
Adding a new answer
Click Add Another Answer at the bottom of the table and fill in the text.
Deleting an answer
Click the red trash icon on the right side of the answer row. The answer is removed immediately from the form. Click Save to confirm the deletion.
Warning: Deleting an answer permanently removes it and its vote count.
Duplicating a Poll
Duplicating creates a new poll pre-filled with the same settings and answers as an existing poll. All vote counts on the copy are reset to zero. This is useful when you want to run a recurring poll, create a similar poll for a different page, or change the poll type without losing the original.
How to Duplicate a Poll
- Navigate to Administer Site > Polls.
- Find the poll you want to copy and click the copy icon (two overlapping squares) in the Copy column.
- The create form opens with all fields pre-filled from the original. The Name field has " (copy)" appended automatically.
- Review and update the fields as needed.
- Click Save.
What Carries Over
- Name — copied with " (copy)" appended. You should rename it before saving.
- Page, Type, Access Type, Visible, Question — all copied as-is.
- Answers — all answer texts are copied. All vote counts are set to zero.
What Does Not Carry Over
- Vote history — the copy starts with zero votes on every answer.
- Individual voter records — Advanced poll voter data from the original does not transfer.
Note: After duplicating, review the Page and Visible settings before saving. The copy defaults to the same page and visibility as the original, which may not be what you intend.
Deleting a Poll
Deleting a poll permanently removes it and all of its vote data from the site. This action cannot be undone.
How to Delete a Poll
- Navigate to Administer Site > Polls.
- Click the name of the poll you want to delete.
- On the edit screen, scroll down and click the red Delete button below the form.
- A confirmation dialog appears asking you to confirm the deletion.
- Click OK to permanently delete the poll, or Cancel to go back.
Once deleted, the poll no longer appears on the site or in the poll list, and all vote data is gone.
Warning: Deletion is permanent. If you think you may want to refer back to the results later, consider hiding the poll instead — set Visible to Off and click Save. The poll stays in the list and its vote data is preserved, but members will no longer see it on the site.
