This article walks you through creating an event from scratch and explains every field on the event form.
How to Create an Event
- Navigate to Administer Site > Modules > Calendar.
- Click Create Event (top-right of the page).
- Fill in the event form (see field descriptions below).
- Click Save.
Event Form Fields
Event Name (required)
The short title of the event. This appears in the calendar list and on the event detail page. Keep it concise.
Description (required)
The full description of the event. Use the rich text editor to add formatting, images, and links. This appears on the event detail page.
Link (optional)
A URL associated with the event — for example, a registration page or an external website. Enter the full address including https://.
Location (optional)
Where the event takes place. You can type a free-form address or, if your administrator has set up saved locations, choose from a dropdown list. You can also type a new location directly if the one you need is not in the list.
Tip: See "Managing Saved Event Locations" to learn how to build a list of common venues so members can pick from a dropdown rather than typing each time.
Status (required)
Controls visibility. Select one of:
- Active — Published and visible on the calendar.
- Disabled — Hidden from the public calendar.
- Pending — Awaiting approval (used when resident submissions require review).
Start Date and Start Time (required)
The date the event begins. Click the calendar icon to use the date picker, or type a date directly. Enter the start time using the time picker or by typing. Check All day if the event has no specific time — doing so hides the time fields.
End Date and End Time (required)
The date and time the event ends. For single-day events, the end date defaults to the same date as the start. For multi-day events, set an end date beyond the start date.
Note: If you check All day on the start time, the end time field is also hidden. All-day events display without times on the public calendar.
Recurrence
Choose whether the event repeats. Select On to reveal recurrence options (see "Setting Up a Recurring Event"), or Off for a one-time event.
After Saving
The new event is added to the Event List. If you set its status to Active, it immediately appears on the public calendar. If you set it to Disabled, it is saved but not visible to residents.
