The Neighborhood Location setting stores your community's physical address and displays an interactive map on your site. The map helps residents and visitors orient themselves to your neighborhood.
Getting There
- Log in with an administrator account.
- Click Administer Site in the top navigation bar.
- In the left-hand menu, navigate to Settings > Neighborhood Location.
What You Will See
If a location has already been saved, the page shows your current address and an embedded map. A Change link next to the address lets you update it at any time.
If no location has been saved yet, the page opens directly to the address entry form.
Setting or Changing Your Location
- Navigate to Administer Site > Settings > Neighborhood Location.
- If a location is already saved, click Change next to the address. If no location is saved, the entry form opens automatically.
- Select your Country from the dropdown. Available options are United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Note: The Country setting also affects the list of states and provinces available in member profile forms across your site.
- Type your neighborhood's street address in the Address field. As you type, the field offers autocomplete suggestions. Selecting a suggestion helps ensure the address is found correctly.
- Click Submit.
- The system searches for your address. See the next step based on the result:
- One match found — A map preview appears confirming the location. Click Submit to save.
- Multiple matches found — Select the correct address from the list of options shown. The map updates to reflect your selection. Click Submit to save.
- No matches found — We are unable to locate the address provided. Click Back and enter a more specific address (for example, include the city or postal code).
After Saving
Once saved, your address and an embedded map appear on the Neighborhood Location page in the admin area. The map is also displayed to residents on your site's public-facing location page.
When Multiple Matches Appear
When you enter your neighborhood's address, the system geocodes it to find a precise location. Occasionally the search returns more than one candidate — for example, if the same street name exists in more than one city.
- After submitting your address, the confirmation page lists each matching result as a radio button.
- Read each option carefully and select the one that correctly identifies your neighborhood.
- The map below the list updates to show the currently selected location. Use it to verify the pin is in the right place.
- Click Submit to save your selection.
Tip: If none of the listed addresses are correct, click Back and re-enter the address with more detail — for example, add the city name, state, or postal code to narrow the results.
If No Matches Are Found
If the system cannot find any results for your address, click Back and try one of the following:
- Check for typos in the street name or number.
- Add the city and state (or province) to the address field.
- Use a nearby landmark or the postal code as part of the entry to help the geocoder locate the area.
